What is a RCD?

Updated: Aug 20, 2024

RCD stands for Residual Current Device. The term "residual current" refers to the leftover current that can flow through the body of a person or animal or to the ground when there is an electrical fault.

RCDs are specific devices created to automatically cut off the electricity supply upon detecting an imbalance between the live and neutral wires in a circuit. This feature significantly improves electrical safety by safeguarding users against the dangers of electric shock and electrical fires.
